Ominous from the opening acoustics emerging from dark waters into the grinding Sabbath-inspired guitar riff, "Metalhead" is a classic metal ear worm. Chris Gursky's powerful exhortations to "come on out and join us" were inspired by the role of heavy metal in inspiring Eastern Europe's youth yearning for freedom from the old Soviet Union. "Metalhead" also showcases a Nor'easter trademark; rather than the bass line simply supporting a guitar break, the two instruments harmonize on the main part of the solo section. "Hail the Cosmic Metalhead!"
