The album opens with the delicate classical-influenced multitrack acoustic, which gives way to the swell and thrash of the title cut. Nor'easter's youthful fury and energy evoke the storm surge pounding the beaches. "Calm" showcases singer Chris Gursky's unique voice and dynamic range, before suddenly giving way to an epic guitar solo section. Like many of their songs, "Calm" has several different sections intricately woven together under an Iron Maiden-like assault.
